Men's Summer Skincare: Tips for Healthy Skin

Men's Summer Skincare: Tips for Healthy Skin

During summer, we’re all out and about more - whether that be kick abouts in the park or bbqs on the beach. As we spend more time outside, our skin is exposed to more potential problems, be it the sun, sweat or general dirt.

This is why it’s especially important to ensure we’re looking after our skin properly in the summer months.

It can be easy to run out of the house without a care in the world and then get home late and fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow. But it’s vital you include a skincare routine into your summer plans to keep you looking fresh, energised and healthy.

In this blog, we’ll take you through each of the steps to ensure your skin is protected this summer.

Step 1: Cleanse

Are you guilty of washing your face with soap in the shower and calling it a day? That needs to stop. Soap can strip facial skin of its natural oils which causes it to dry out. This can cause irritation.

Or you could be one who splashes a little water and thinks that’s enough? By not using a cleansing formula, you’ll struggle to remove any impurities from below the skin surface and this could cause your pores to become clogged, leading to spots and oily skin.

Use a face specific cleanser morning and night to wash away dirt, sweat and excess oil and leave your face feeling fresh and clean.

Step 2: Exfoliate

We’ve just stressed the importance of keeping your pores unclogged and this is why you should also include an exfoliation into your routine a couple of times a week. By exfoliating, you will deeply cleanse the pores, as well as removing dead skin cells from the face. This refreshes the skin, giving you a smooth and healthy surface to work with.

Exfoliate before you shave to open up the hair follicles and allow the razor to shave closer to the skin.

Step 3: Serum

Once your face is clean and your pores are clear, it’s the perfect time to use a more powerful formulation to address your current skin concerns.

A serum is a lightweight formula that delivers a high concentration of active ingredients into the skin. It absorbs quickly into the skin and targets specific skin concerns.

For example, if you have dry, dehydrated or oily skin you may want to opt for a hydrating serum that contains hyaluronic acid tol help to replenish the skin and allow it to function in a more efficient manner.

Or if you want to target sun damage, choose a Vitamin C serum which neutralizes free radicals, the molecules that harm the skin during sun exposure.

Apply your serum daily after cleansing.

Step 4: Under Eye Care

The skin under the eye is thin and can be one of the first places to show signs of tiredness, ageing and skin damage. By giving your under eyes a little attention, you can minimise the appearance of eye bags, puffiness, dark circles and fine lines to ensure your skin looks youthful and awake.

Use an under eye mask a couple of times a week to soothe the skin and address any damage or signs of tiredness/ageing that may have been caused. The BARBER PRO Under Eye Mask uses activated charcoal and volcanic ash to cleanse and tone the skin, removing impurities and ensuring the skin’s elasticity stays intact. Shop now >>

On the topic of eye care, it’s also important to wear sunglasses whenever it is bright outside as this will stop you from squinting and therefore prevents the formation of fine lines.

Step 5: Moisturiser + SPF

Sunscreen isn’t just important when you’re spending a day on the beach. Rain or shine your skin can be damaged by the sun’s rays. This is why it’s important to include an SPF into your daily routine.

An easy way to do this is to choose a moisturiser with SPF protection. This serves a dual purpose: the moisturiser will hydrate the skin, while the SPF will offer sun protection. Skin hydration is key to stop your skin over producing oils, keeping your skin a healthy texture and preventing you from becoming shiny or spotty.

If you would rather, you can opt for separate moisturising and SPF products. If this is the case, choose an oil-free water based sunscreen that is specifically formulated for the face.

Step 6: Sun yourself sensibly

We’ve all been guilty of heading out and frying ourselves a little too long in the sun. This is why we should take all of the necessary precautions to prevent sun damage such as staying in the shade during the hottest hours of the day.

It’s also important to protect your scalp from the sun so wear a hat to keep it covered. Your scalp is a very sensitive area and could cause longer term problems if it is seriously burnt.
